development of iridocyclitis

The pauciarticular type affects four or fewer joints, is the most common, about 50% of all children with JRA have this type; it has the peak of maximum incidence around two years of age; most of the time it is monoarticular and the joints most interested are: knees, ankles and elbows. Other joints such as the hips, wrists, spine or interphalange are less commonly affected. Pauciarticular JRA tends to be unilateral.

Type I usually affects young girls under 2 years of age and is associated with the development of iridocyclitis or chronic uveitis in approximately 1/3 of patients and is presented with positive anti-nuclear antibodies ( Flekosteel).
